Who needs sleep?

I can't sleep.  It's genetic I think.  You know, there is a gene, and if you have it you don't require much sleep.  Really I am not making this up.  I think I inhereted it from my grandmother.  A fiery petite red-head that always went a hundred miles an hour.

Yes, I'm sure I've got it, that gene that says 2-4 hours of sleep a night is enough.

Have I been tested for it......no, but common sence tells me that it's there running around inside my head, and it's shouting " time to get up".

This gene and I get along fine when I am at the farm

there is always plenty to do in the middle of the night:

make hand-made business cards

spin wool

knit socks

sew aprons

make my Gypsy Bags 

and refurbished old second hand clothes

 into quirky,unique, one of a kind clothing

oil paint

deliver baby goats

go for moon lit walks

 (hope I don't get attacked by a pack of coyotes)

catch my garden journal up to date

pour over seed catalogs

hunt mice

bake bread

and the list goes on and on.........

but when I am in my home (rental) away from home

I have to be quiet in the middle of the night

so I don't wake the household

I just about go BERSERK  !

SO I

 tried to make my (everything second-hand, thrift store courtier)

 room in my home away from home, 

as cozy and calming as possible

hoping to catch some ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

by using subdued colors....

calming, garden inspired furnishings

a vintage cherub lamp with a custom home- made lamp shade

I make and sell these shades at a local shop

 if you want, I will make you one

in the middle of the night of course

old, heavy, gold curtains and tassels

to block out the light from the yard light placed right by the window

I tea stained the vintage lace curtains.  The material took the stain beautifully

leaving the floral pattern bright white while the fine weave turned a light golden brown

the top half of a broken cherub and an old wall hanging from the 70's

makes a unique curtain tye-back

couldn't resist these large chicken feather pillows I scored at the thrift store for only 4 bucks

 cream colored lacy pillow cases and an antique iron bed

 I painted a garden inspired rose painting using muted colors

 and framed it in an antique gilded frame

funky lights from the 50's

antique pot-metal horses (I collect for my handsome man COWBOY)

sit a top his old antique dresser

an old ornate mirror reflects vintage art work on the wall

that is placed above my antique clawed, green velvet love seat

( I know you are all jealous of the paneled walls)

an old velvet bedspread

with a beautiful, rich, tasseled duvet folded at the foot of the bed

This is my room in my home away from home

Well, what do you do when you rent out "the little red house"?   You move Rosie,  my little vintage camp trailer, into a secluded spot on the farm  and set up camp.  Only one problem, she is not self contained.   I have always wanted an outdoor bath, and have been collecting items for it for years.  I had  big plans of a quirky building to house the facilities, and an attached sun room to draw in the heat with hoses or pipe in the roof to collect  hot water.  But when necessity calls you put something up quick.  So it was off to the lumber pile and a few hours of work and this is my dream come true........well, maybe not quite what I had in mind, but it will work dandy.

made a table out of an old slat door

an old dining hutch filled with dishes, utensils and bowls

and an umbrella make a fine kitchen

Rounded up what lumber we could find,

big grow boxes placed next to each other formed the foundation,

and the port-a-potty used 17 years ago when we first lived on the farm.... in a tent,

thick gold draperies from the thrift store

a window

a wooden shelf

and hauled the claw foot tub I have kept for just such an occasion.

Gathered up the old glass decanters I have found over the years.

I'll make some beautifully colored bath salts, bubble bath, and bath oils

to fill them with.

Yes, necessity is sometimes the best reason

Rosie gets a face lift

In 2006, when I purchased my little 12 foot vintage camp trailer, I was asked by one of my sons' why I bought a little, old, needing repairs camp trailer.  I replied, "It was manufactured the same year I was born, so of course I had to buy it."  He replied, "Oh, no wonder it looks so old" , but he didn't mean it rudely, in fact he quickly realized what he had insinuated and apologized.  I laughed and said "All she needs is a little paint and a nip and tuck here and there and she will be as good as new".

So off to the hardware store I went to buy cans of spray paint so I could paint her to reflect the name I had chosen for her.  Rummaging through my second-hand fabric stash, I found the perfect material to recover the cushions in a beautiful rose floral print.  Tightening up the door way and adding a new front window, " Rosie" was ready to go.

Over the years her paint  has faded and the cushions lost their vibrant color, so this summer Rosie had a face lift.

A new wooden floor replaced the old green carpet from the 60's

 old, painted, rusted, and chipped tin tiles are added behind the stove

The old paint had faded

so it was off to the hardware store for new paint

wall paper and a vintage milk-glass light (all second-hand of course)

were installed in the "master suite"

In my bins of thrift store linens I found the perfect 60's plush velvet bedspread with Tassels

 (I had one just like it when I was young)

added a few second-hand pillows and a throw, all with Tassels,

dug around through several more bins and found just the right curtains

(that still had the price tag on them $1.00)

I found a large piece of tucked material in a gorgeous olive green

If I cut it in half will it cover both bench seats?

rummaged yet again in my curtain bin and found the perfect curtains

they were way too long so I simply folded them in half and used curtain clips to attach them to the rod.

They fit perfectly.

And they also had ............TASSELS

Here are the end results:

Personally I give it 5 stars *****

 Now, a final polish and shine and getting the last of the remodel dust out I will be
loading up my oil paints, canvases, and the old Coleman stove and heading for the hills.
I'll hike to the perfect spot to set up my easel, I'll spend a few days painting,
wandering, and day-dreaming.   Only wish I could, my vehicle that pulls Rosie is broke
 down right now.  Guess I will just have to go " GLAMPING" out in the back-yard.

This past summer I lived in " Rosie" all summer.  I rented out the little red house and moved " Rosie" to the farm.  One fact about living in an old vintage trailer, they do not have a bathroom, so I rummaged up some lumber and the old claw foot tub and made an outdoor bath.

Had a great time a glamping at the farm.  However, when my husband drove down when he had a few days off, there just wasn't enough room for the 2 of us in the tiny camper.  I am going to make a

 "NO BOYS ALLOWED" sign

 and make him sleep in the doghouse........or a tent.
